The University of Southern Mississippi (USM)

Founded in 1910, The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) opened its doors as a small teachers' college. Today, the University has grown into a comprehensive doctoral and research-driven institution. Only one hour from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Hattiesburg campus sits on 300 acres and is conveniently located to on- and off-campus housing, shopping, restaurants and vibrant, mid-town and historic downtown areas. Offering over 180 programs of study, USM delivers a quality education in one of the most affordable college towns in the U.S. With a diverse student body of approximately 14,500 students, including 420 international students representing 72 countries, we celebrate diversity in every sense of the word.
