The university comprises 8 regional campuses located throughout Northeast, Ohio, offering more than 300 academic programs at the certificate, associate, bachelor's, master's, educational specialist and doctoral levels. The Kent campus features 25 residence halls 12 living-learning communities including the International Village Experience (IVE), a health center, a student wellness and fitness center, 8 sports facilities, a fashion museum, the world-renowned Liquid Crystal Institute, and 20- plus restaurants, dining halls and coffee shops. Kent State is also one of only a handful of U.S. universities with its own airport/flight center which supports its aeronautics and aerospace programs.

Today, Kent State enrolls approximately 41,000 students, including 2,200 international students from 104 different countries. Almost 10% of students attending the Kent campus are international, nearly twice the U.S. average.

Location of Kent State UniversityKent State University is located in the city of Kent in the northeast section of the state of Ohio, which is in the Midwest region of the United States (see map). Situated on the Cuyahoga River, Kent (pop. 28,000) is a small town with tree-lined streets, an abundance of open spaces and lots of fresh air. A historic downtown boasts numerous restaurants, shops and stores, as well as a wealth of entertainment venues. Plus, the Northeast Ohio area is also one of the most affordable places to live in the United States. Northeast Ohio is home to many of the world's most respected corporations, as well as a wealth of internationally known cultural, entertainment and sports attractions. Nature abounds in Northeast Ohio – nearby are the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Great Lakes system, and the Appalachian Mountain chain. Several major metropolitan areas are within easy reach by car, bus or train, while two local airports in nearby Cleveland and Akron provide rapid access to almost anywhere in the world. The temperature in the Northeast Ohio area varies from 18.3 to 29.6˚C in summer to -6.5 to 2.3˚C in winter.

  1. Based on one academic year (two semesters) for a full-time international student. Program and special course fees are additional. Tuition costs are subject to change.
  2. Based on a standard double room and basic meal plan. Other enhanced room types and meal plans are available on an optional basis. Housing fees for winter and spring breaks are not included.
  3. Based on 9 credit hours per semester for graduate students. Programs and special course fees are additional. The international activity fee is $20 per semester, or $40 for the entire academic year.
  4. This estimate for tuition, ESL surcharge, and course fees is based on 17 credit hours per semester, and includes the surcharge of $10 per credit hour for out-of-state students enrolled in ESL courses, as well as a special ESL course fee of $30 per credit hour. ESL students also have a one-time application fee of $30.
Students who bring family members may use the chart above and add $4,500 for a spouse or other first dependent, plus $2,500 for each additional dependent (if staying an academic year).

All students who are under 20 years old are required to live on campus and purchase a meal plan, according to university regulations, unless specific criteria are met for a waiver.
Kent State offers many scholarships of varying amounts for International Freshmen, Transfer Students and Graduate Students. In addition, Graduate Assistantships are offered by many graduate programs and include either partial or full tuition waiver.
