“CMU has very good education conditions, perfect professors and I enjoy using the Student Activity Center. I enjoy the four pretty seasons, and I feel people from Michigan are so nice to help international students. I am president of the Chinese Student and Scholar Association and am responsible to help Chinese students gain a better life experience here and know much more about American culture. I help plan several projects and events.”
“My major is finance, and I work for Campus Dining. CMU has a perfect condition for studying and the university offers generous but achievable scholarships for international students. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, reading, and watching TV shows. Meeting new people at CMU is also fun.”
“I came to CMU as part of my collaboration program and then decided to also do the Master of Science in Information Systems and the data mining certificate. I like the affordable tuition, low cost of living and good reputation on SAP-related coursework and certifications at CMU. As a member of the SAP student user group, International Student Advisory Board, Indian Student Association, and International Student Organization, I suggest for the best student experience that future CMU students live on campus, take advantage of CMU’s facilities and resources like the library, student activity center and residence halls, and take part in the many social networking events!”
“The best part about CMU is that it embraces diversity, and it has so many different people from different parts of the world.”
"My name is Roberto Herrera Lopez. I am an engineering student at Central Michigan University and I am privileged to be a Chippewa. CMU offers very high quality education programs and diverse course options of courses outside your program of study to help enrich your overall knowledge. I have received different awards at CMU and working opportunities as well. The community at CMU is very welcoming and friendly. CMU does make the difference.“
"In Chinese culture, college ranking is important, so I was about to choose a slightly higher ranked university with a push from my Father to do so. But because of my conversations and the videos I saw, I went with the place, Central Michigan University, in which I had a sense of more comfort; USA was already a foreign place to me. After three year’s studying at Central Michigan University, I now believe an overall ranking cannot tell everything; however, an excellent program is the best choice. CMU is one of the largest universities in United States. Surprisingly, it has relatively a small student to professor rate. This means I am more likely to get help from the professors, I frequent my professor’s office often to get assistance. A good program is also important, but I have learned rankings do not tell about specific programs. CMU is one of the AACSB accredited institutes in Business Administration and Accounting, I was excited as I learned more about what this meant for my job prospects internationally. Since being at CMU I have learned there are many wonderful programs my friends study, I even added on a special certificate thanks to my friend sharing with me the quality of the certificate program and career services helping me understand how it will improve my resume for finding a job.
When I arrived at CMU I knew I made the right choice. That feeling I got when watching the video was even grander when I came to campus. I fell in love with Park Library since the first time I saw it and it is still the place I go and stay the most on campus. During final exam week, students are everywhere studying hard and even overnight. In addition, the campus size is suitable to walk around within half an hour, which means I do not need to worry about taking a bus in between of classes.”
“My journey to CMU was inspired by my quest to improve the health care system of my country and in doing so I needed to acquire more knowledge and skills beyond the shores of my country.
The faculty-student relationship has been a phenomenal experience for me, which is so thrilling and nothing like any experience I had in university in Nigeria. I have had opportunities to have lunch with my professors, which is entirely new to me. They are beyond mere instructors and have become my friends, mentors and more like mothers to me. I have never seen faculty members and instructors committed to both the success and welfare of the students as much as the faculty members of the CMU MPH program. The learning experiences have been so practical beyond the typical classroom. Students are regularly exposed to practical field experiences from diverse Public Health practitioners as guest lecturers. Several seminars are put together to keep students up to date on current events in the field, as well as to prepare us to compete with other professionals around the world.
MPH Central Michigan University is a friendly, advanced and esteemed place to be and I am proud to be among the first cohort! My experiences so far within the CMU community has been awesome. I remember never feeling out of place when I first arrived. The diversity culture at CMU gives it an edge over other schools. This highly esteemed culture also provides the platform for students all over the world to come together peacefully while respecting individuals' differences within a definite area in pursuit of academic excellence as well as learn diverse cultures simultaneously.”
"Studying abroad has always been my dream since I was in high School. My transition from Ghana to Central Michigan University (CMU) has been what I describe as exhilarating.
Gaining admission to pursue the (MSA) program at Central Michigan University was a dream come true. Upon all the schools that I considered, CMU had this big heart. I say big heart in the idea to appreciating diverse communities from different countries. I was as an assistant administrative officer for the Nursing and Midwifery Council in Ghana before traveling to CMU to earn a master’s degree in health services administration. As an international student, adapting to learning was a bit challenging.
As an international student, I have an opportunity to apply for job related to my field of study in a period of twelve calendar months. This will allow me to apply theoretical experience received from the MSA program into the real world "
“I had a good friend in my pharmacy school who was my senior and later attended CMU’s MSA program. It was due to her referral and feedback initially but after looking at the HSA course curriculum particularly, I felt that it is a perfect match to my academic interest.
As an International Student at CMU, I was warmly welcomed and made comfortable at all times. I also feel Mount Pleasant is a place which has really made me feel at home though I am thousands of miles away from home. The credit definitely goes to the staff and faculty of my MSA program who have not only helped me to succeed in my studies, but also mentored and advised when needed to overcome the cultural shock.
The MSA program had hosted many fun get-together events where I could reconnect with my friends time-to-time. It also makes me feel privileged that I have organized one such event as a graduate assistant, representing the MSA program. With that great support of my advisor and professors, I have earned an internship experience at the Houston Methodist Hospital as an administrative/operations intern in summer.
I feel honored that I am nearing my graduation and presently working alongside on my MSA 699 capstone project. At the same time, I am also sure that I will miss CMU and my MSA peers. I am planning on working as a healthcare analyst during the 12-month Optional Practical Training period to gain real world experience in the field of Healthcare.”
