Study a graduate program in Library and Information Science

What will I study in a graduate library and information science program?

Library and Information Science study includes three key areas: introduction to the library and information science professions and environments; resources and organization of information; and management and policy.

Integrated within library science are studies in information architecture, information behavior, database administration, innovation, metadata, budgeting, and project management. Students studying in the U.S. should seek a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) since 1928. In North America, most library employers require an ALA-accredited master’s degree for professional-level positions. Outside of North America, ALA accreditation illustrates the program’s high standards because of the rigorous ALA review standards.
