Alaska has a lot to offer an international graduate student. There are eight state universities that offer two-year, four-year, and graduate degrees. Alaska also has six private schools. Universities in Alaska have a world-class reputation, as a graduate student, you will earn a very respectable graduate degree. Alaska is particularly strong in the fields of environmental and petroleum studies. Whether you are looking for a small, cosy environment or a large campus, Alaska offers universities to suit all. Most of Alaska's state universities and also the private universities have awards for their studies and achievements.

Things To Do In Alaska

There are cornucopias of things that make Alaska very attractive. Alaska offers two distinct weather types depending on where you choose to live. Alaska's southern region has an oceanic climate and the northern region, a sub-oceanic climate. Alaska is placed in the extreme northwest portion of the North American continent. Outdoor activities that Alaskans particularly enjoy include hockey and dog mushing. However, also partake in a number of other sports especially indoor American football, hiking, camping, cross-country skiing, hunting, and fishing. Alaska has an abundance of national parks and forest that are extremely popular with Alaskans and students alike. Alaska's breath-taking views of the picturesque mountain range make it a number one tourist destination.

Living In Alaska

Getting to Alaska is no problem. Even thought the state's road system doesn't travel everywhere, flying in and out of Alaska is a quick and easy way of travelling further afield. Alaska may be a more tranquil, less populated State, however, there's a huge city just overflowing with culture and exciting entertainment.

For a good time and to really soak in the Alaskan culture you need to go to Juneau, the capital of Alaska.

The fun and vibrant city of Juneau has about 30,000 residents and so much to do, from going to see plays to eating out and enjoying some traditional Alaskan cuisine. Another notable city is Anchorage, Alaska's largest with a population of 100,000 people. Alaska is a beautiful State with plenty of activities to do and places to visit – you won't want to leave!
