Austria
In Austria there are 21 state universities (some of them dating back to the 14th century) and in addition to these also several universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen) and teacher training colleges. World-famous are also the universities of the arts (in Vienna, Salzburg and Graz) along with the scientific universities. 16% international students at the scientific universities and 40% at the universities of the arts are a clear signal for the quality and openness of the Austrian education system for international graduate students.
Following the Bologna Process the majority of the educational institutions have already changed their education system to the three-tier system (bachelor, master, PhD) and increasingly offer education in other languages. In general the language of instruction in Austria is German.
