International postgrads in the UK to help businesses overseas
Karam Filfilan

londonBusinesses in the UK are to recruit international postgraduate students to help them break into overseas markets, business secretary Vince Cable has announced.

The postgraduate students will help UK businesses move into international markets by advising them on cultural etiquette, using their language skills and introducing business contacts.

Students will work during holiday breaks, with students from high-growth areas like India, China and Nigeria particularly sought after.

“The ‘Made in Britain’ brand opens doors to UK firms around the world but a lack of language and cultural skills slams them shut in their faces,” said the secretary.

“Our medium-sized businesses have the potential to be economic powerhouses for the UK but their success is dependent on expanding beyond domestic markets.

“This important new initiative will help firms overcome the barriers that are a drag on growth and compete with the best the rest of the world has to offer,” he added.

Particularly popular subjects for postgraduate students to study in the UK include business studies, engineering and technology.
