Politics and Public Administration
The Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Limerick (UL) has an international and cosmopolitan orientation with internationally recognised experts in European, African, Latin American, South East Asian, Russian and post-Soviet politics, as well as Irish politics and public policy. In addition to the diversity of area specialisms on offer, the study of politics in Limerick is also enriched by a variety of disciplinary approaches including: quantitative methods, political theory, international relations, international political economy, comparative politics, public policy analysis, as well as feminist, gramscian and utopian studies.
The Department offers seven full time taught MA programmes:
- MA European Integration
- MA Peace and Development
- MA International Studies;
- MA Public Administration;
- Partnership Studies;
- MA Politics
- MA Development
In order to foster social as well as academic support for our PhD students, the department supports two research clusters in 'International Politics and Development' and 'European Politics and Public Policy'. These, in addition to other departmental research forums, ensure that doctoral students are able to maintain a lively and interactive intellectual life within the department.

Limerick City
The third largest city in the Republic of Ireland, Limerick was founded by the Vikings over a thousand years ago. Limerick City (population 80,000) is a most lively, interesting and attractive place to live and study. The city is magnificently sited on one of Europe’s finest rivers, the Shannon. The proximity of Shannon International Airport ensures that the Region’s important trade links with the global market-place are maintained.
Limerick offers an unequalled base from which to explore the Southwest and West of Ireland.
‘Limerick City is cheerfully urban…and has historic and cultural attractions in plenty to keep the visitors happily occupied…It’s central streets buzz with life and a busy shopping scene. Fine museums and galleries, and a thriving restaurant and pub-culture, have enhanced Limerick’s already warm heart’
