  • Services on the Internet
  • Broad cooperation with industry

In Master’s Programme in Mobile Computing – Services and Security you can study a combination of courses covering general computer science and the specific fields of technical information security, network applications and services, Internet technologies and mobile networking. IT-technologies are at the core of the technical framework of the programme. Key subject areas for the Internet and mobile networks are network applications and services, as well as service management issues including charging, quality of service, mobility and security. In the open Internet environment, security is a critical issue when developing services.

This programmme builds on a long industrial and educational tradition to focus on security, mobility and services in Finland together with the other Nordic countries. The Finnish Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) industry and Helsinki University of Technology are global leaders in research and education in mobile communication. Finland was one of the pioneers in large scale Internet usage in Europe and Finland together with the Nordic countries were the first to deploy regional cellular networks giving the mobile networking industry a good starting point to develop the second and third generation mobile networks and devices. The biggest on-line banking system in the world covers the Nordic countries already over ten years. Mobility, services and security are key drivers and enablers for the growth of the mobile networking and ICT in the future, too.

The close ties to the industry give our students the possibility to work with world-class research teams and to participate in developing future products and services. Most Master's theses are written as part of research projects in different companies, though, academically focused students can do the Master’s theses in the university research units.
