General Philosophy
This specialised masters programme in economics is geared to students interested in careers in research, in government and international organisations, and in the research and strategy departments of large banks and industrial and commercial corporations.

Diploma
The diploma leads to a jointly awarded M.A. Economics of Globalisation and European Integration, signed by the Rector, President or Vice-Chancellor of each partner university.

The programme started operating as an Erasmus Mundus Master Course from the academic year 2006-2007 onwards. For the academic year 2011-2012 the M.A. received the Erasmus Mundus Brand Name. There will be no scholarships available during that year.

Structure of the Programme
The language of the programme is English. The students on the programme will be part of an international group throughout their studies.

The course has a maximum of 50 students. The selection of the entrants to the programme is through a common and unified procedure. The main selection criterion is past academic performance.

The Masters programme consists of 60 ECTS credits, the taught part consisting of 45 credits and the dissertation 15 credits. The study programme is fulltime and runs over 12 months.

The time schedule is as follows :

Term I (mid-September to end of December): USTL
Term II (mid-January to mid-April): UA
Term III (mid-April to end of June): VŠE

Students finalise their dissertation during the third term. They are allowed to submit their dissertation until September 30th.

Term I (at USTL):

  • Advanced Microeconomics (6 credits)
  • Advanced Macroeconomics (6 credits)
  • Applied Econometrics (6 credits)
  • Mathematics for Economists (optional, 2 credits)
  • French Language (optional, 2 credits)

Term II (at UA):

  • International Trade: Theory and Policy (6 credits)
  • Open Economy Macroeconomics (4 credits)
  • Economics of European Integration, Part 1 (4 credits)
  • Special Topics in Applied Econometrics (optional, 5 credits)
  • Dutch Language (optional, 2 credits)

Term III (at VŠE):

  • Economics of Globalisation (4 credits)
  • Economics of European Integration, Part 2 (2 credits)
  • Special Topics in International Finance (optional, 5 credits)
  • Special Topics in International Trade (optional, 5 credits)
  • Economics of Regulation (optional, 5 credits)
  • Czech Language (optional, 2 credits).

Students choose one subject from the ‘Advanced subjects’ 5 credits option courses list and one subject from the ‘Skills’ 2 credits option courses list. They may choose more option courses from both lists. Only the best marks from both lists will be used to calculate the overall GPA.

The students finalise their dissertation (15 credits) during the summer. The deadline for submission is 30 September 2012. During the second term they have to hand in a short (credited) dissertation brief.

Admission Criteria and Enrolment Procedure
The programme is open to students who have earned 240 ECTS credits in an economics or applied economics university study programme or have a bachelor degree in these areas that are considered by the Joint Studies Board to be equivalent.

Students should submit proof of a computer-based TOEFL level of minimum 230 (or its equivalent in the so-called next generation TOEFL score system), or an IELTS grade of at least 6.5, or submit proof of having studied at least one academic year in an English-language programme.

The selection criteria are common to all students and relate primarily to study results.

All candidates should submit the appropriate application form on the website. The application deadline is May 31, 2011.

Financial Aspects        
The tuition fee for non-EU students is  7.000,- euro, and 3.300,- euro for EU students. All students enrol at one of the partner universities. European students may possibly benefit from an Erasmus SOCRATES grant.
