Birbeck Management

Department of Management – Postgraduate Programmes

Birkbeck is a leading centre of research excellence in the UK. The Department of Management combines the academic strengths and international reputation of a major graduate school in one of Britain’s top universities with the practical benefits of flexible access and evening teaching.

Birbeck StudentsHalf of the postgraduate students are in full-time employment and study on a part-time basis two evenings per week. The other half take the same evening classes but study for their degrees full-time three evenings per week.

In all, we admitted nearly 200 graduate students in 2004 and are expecting even more in 2005. Our teaching is done almost entirely by our resident core faculty. All are experienced teachers and academic researchers and most are internationally renowned in their fields.

The Department of Management has an international reputation in management research and has received research grants from the European Commission; the British Academy; the Department for Culture, Media and Sport; the Leverhulme Trust and the Department of Trade and Industry. The Department also carries out joint research with the Department of Organizational Psychology including a major Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) research project on the Future of Work.
