Master of Hotel Management

Since 2005 the Australian International Hotel School has offered a fully developed Masters program. The program is ideal for graduates with a degree in another discipline who have decided to make a career change to the global hospitality industry.

It also suits hospitality and tourism professionals already in the industry who are looking to take their professional qualifications to a new level.Hotel Lobby

The Master of Hotel Management is a postgraduate degree program combining:

  • Rigorous theoretical management core studies including law, policy, property and facilities, operations and logistics, finance and promotion.
  • A range of elective units including ethics, entrepreneurship, events management, revenue management, and sales and marketing.
  • An internship of skills-training and practice under professional supervision as staff of the boutique Hotel Kurrajong onsite.
  • 1x24 week block of paid industry practicum with employers in Australia and abroad including a workplace analysis research project.

Structure and subjects

For students with a Bachelors in hospitality or with suitable hospitality experience the program is typically delivered in fast-track mode over 18 months in four academic terms (or 12 weeks each).

Students with a Bachelors degree in any field and with no hospitality management experience can also apply for the program. The program would then be delivered over seven terms (1.75 years) with these students being able to exit with a Graduate Certificate in hotel Management after 4 academic terms and a Graduate Diploma in Hotel Management after 6 academic terms.

Students at the Australian International Hotel SchoolStudents study the following core units in the full Masters program:

  • The Hotel Industry in a Global Context
  • Research and Project Management
  • Hospitality and Tourism Law and Policy
  • Property and Facilities Management
  • Hotel and Services Operations and Logistics
  • Operational Externship
  • Financial Decision Making
  • Product Innovation and Promotional Strategies
  • Human Resource Leadership and Management

Students also select three of the following elective subjects:

  • Ethics in the Hotel Business
  • Entrepreneurship in the Hotel Industry
  • Business Events Management
  • Revenue Management
  • Strategic Hotel Management Issues and Developments

Pathway to Masters for AIHS undergraduates

When you have gained your Bachelor of Business (international Hotel Management) or Bachelor of Business (International Event Management) at the Australian International Hotel School, you can also go on to study the postgraduate program at AIHS.
